It's not damage. It's physics.

What I retune

  • A note has drifted — one or two notes sound off against the rest

  • The whole instrument has gone out — it's been years, or it's travelled a lot

  • Muddy sustain — the overtones no longer line up with the fundamental

  • Any steel — nitrided, stainless, ember, raw

  • Any brand — I tune whatever comes through the door

  • 432Hz or 440Hz — your choice, either way

FAQ

1. Is it safe to ship my handpan? Yes, when it's packed properly — and I'll show you exactly how. Most damage in transit comes from the instrument moving inside its case, not from the box being dropped. I send every customer a short packing guide before they ship. I also recommend insuring it, and I'll tell you what value to declare. 2. How long will it take? I give you a realistic window when I quote, usually a few weeks rather than a few days, and it depends on what's in the workshop. I'd rather tell you a wide window and keep it than promise a date I can't hold. You'll know before you ship. 3.How much does it cost? Retuning starts at 150€ for a single note and is usually 200–300€ for a full retune. Restoration work involving rust is 450–650€. I quote after seeing your video, and nothing happens until you approve it. 4.What if it can't be fixed? I'll tell you before you ship, not after. That's the whole reason I ask for a video first. If it's beyond saving I'll say so directly — you'll have paid nothing for an honest answer. 5. Do you retune instruments from other makers? Any brand, any steel, any scale. I don't need to have built it to tune it. 6. Can you do 432Hz? Yes — 432Hz or 440Hz, your choice, at the same price. 7. Will it sound exactly like it did when it was new? It'll come back locked, even, and stable. On a well-kept instrument that usually means it sounds like you remember it. If there's rust, deep wear, or previous work by someone else, I'll tell you honestly what to expect before you commit. 8. Where do you ship from, and can you retune from outside Portugal? I'm based in Portugal and I take instruments from across Europe. You arrange shipping in both directions; I'll help you get it right. Germany, Spain, and France are all straightforward.
